Sunday Worship
When you visit Servant’s Community Church, we hope you will feel welcomed, embraced, and cared for. A major emphasis in our worship is community, which means church services include opportunities to participate and connect as you feel comfortable. Here’s what you can expect on a Sunday morning:
Attire: We want you to feel comfortable when you come to worship. Wear what feels most comfortable for you! When you visit, you’ll likely see folks wearing anything from shorts and a T-shirt to a skirt or jeans with a nice shirt. Every once in a while, someone shows up in a suit–those overachievers! ;) Typically, our pastors are wearing jeans and a button down or blouse.
Church starts at 10:00 AM, but our first praise song usually begins 10 minutes later. Folks take time to grab a coffee, connect with neighbors, or settle in for worship. Service usually lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Children’s ministry is available for elementary aged kids. Our kids join us for the first part of service and are blessed and dismissed after about 15 minutes. While we don’t have a staffed nursery, we do maintain space for parents to be able to step away with their young children while staying close to the service. Want to know more about kids ministry? Music: During service, we’ll sing thoughtful songs of praise, worship, lament, and hope. These usually include traditional hymns and contemporary music from artists like The Porter’s Gate.
Prayer: we offer our prayers to God in multiple ways during church, and many Sundays include a “Prayers of the People” time where participants are invited to name their prayers concerns aloud.
Preaching/Teaching: We preach from the Bible, often following the liturgical seasons of the year (for example, in Advent we read from parts of Scripture that lead up to the birth of Christ). Our goal in preaching is to speak the truth of God’s word with compassion, and to wonder together about what God might be inviting us to do with our heads, our hearts, and our hands.
Communion: We share communion on the first Sunday of each month, and every Sunday during special seasons (like Lent and Advent). We celebrate an open table: all are welcome to share this meal of Christ’s sacrifice and love.
Hearing Loop: If you use hearing aids with a T-coil, the hearing loop is available for your use in the sanctuary.
Accessible Spaces: If you use any mobility devices, there is a ramp leading to the front door of the church. All amenities are on one level, and we’ve worked to keep bathrooms accessible.
Parking: Our church building is in the heart of the Westside neighborhood, so we don’t have any parking lot. If you’re driving to church, you will need to make use of street parking (non-metered). We try to keep the spaces in front of the church available for greater accessibility.
